Policy on Nude & Sexual Content Moderation

As a platform Koo accommodates multiple choices and behaviors. Every user on Koo has the freedom to speak about a topic of interest in a language of their choice. 

The legal and cultural perspectives around nudity and sexual materials have diverse shades around the globe. Some cultures are open, others declare nudity as illegal while in other places it is illegal to trade in nudity but watching is not. 

Koo is a safe platform for users to express their thoughts and opinions in multiple languages. A majority of our users visit Koo to express themselves in a language of their choice.  In line with this mission, Koo removes nudity, pornograpy and sexual materials from Koo.  

1. There is zero tolerance on Koo for child sexual abuse materials (CSAM).

Anyone posting, exchanging, requesting, following, reacting or engaging with CSAM, has no place on Koo. You will be blocked permanently, without any notice and are not welcome back.

CSAM is the most depraved form of online content and Koo condemns it in the harshest way. 

Our official handle @KooForGood is the lightning rod for tagging CSAM materials – please do so when you see any content. CSAM can also be reported anonymously, using the in app reporting features. 

We also fully cooperate in reporting these materials to law enforcement agencies across the globe. 

2. We expect users to follow the laws of their country and their own cultures in relation to nudity and sexual content. If nudity or sexual content are illegal in your country, please do not post them.

Koo creates communities based on languages and cultures, and showcases content from such language and culture. If a particular piece of content does not represent your culture, please do not post in your community.

3. Any content exhibiting private parts or live sex or depraved or obscene behavior or nudity will be automatically removed by our algorithms. In extreme cases, a user profile may also be restricted or removed. Notifications of these actions will be provided to users, with a right to file an appeal via our Redressal Forms page. If there is an error, we will immediately reinstate the content.

Artistic or educational or satirical or other content containing nudity or exposure of body parts or other sexual content must be clearly labeled. Such content will also be evaluated by human moderation as well.

4. Koo uses automated algorithms to identify and automatically remove nudity and sexual content. We are cognizant that this update may cause inconvenience to some genuine users and may lead to instances where content may be inadvertently deleted. We sincerely regret such instances and request users to file an appeal for reinstatement using our Redressal Forms.  We are confident that our as algorithms learn more, such instances will reduce over time and will also lead to Koo being a cleaner and safer space for communities and open discourse.

5. As a general rule, nude or sexual content:

• • Will be automatically removed on posting
  • Will not be promoted or found in people feed or be searchable
  • May be handed over to law enforcement, if there is a valid order (including information relating to user collected in accordance with our Privacy Policy)
  • Will be a reason to restrict the profile of a creator, and 
  • In case of removal due to an inadvertent error, will be reinstated, on filing of an appeal from the Redressal Forms.
