Terms and Condition for Voluntary Self Verification

1. Voluntary Self Verification

The voluntary Self Verification feature is offered pursuant to Rule 4(7) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021

The feature is available only to Indian nationals who have an Indian phone number linked to their Aadhar Number/Govt ID. On successful verification, a visible identification will be visible next to the profile of the user, visible to all other users of Koo. 

The Self Verification feature is enabled on a best efforts basis by Bombinate Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (“BTPL”) having its registered office at 849, 11th Main, 2nd Cross, HAL 2nd Stage, Indiranagar, Bangalore PO 560008. BTPL works with several outsourced parties to provide this services (“third parties”)

2. Eligibility & User Obligations

In order to avail Self Verification, a user must:

  • Be a registered user of the Koo platform
  • Consent to submit their Aadhar Number or other Govt. ID for the purposes of verification
  • Not forge, alter, edit, represent or use any other person’s Aadhar Number or Govt. ID as their own, and 
  • Submit only true, accurate and authentic information

Verification may not be undertaken on behalf of another user. 

Any violation of the above or any other unauthorised or illegal activity in relation to Self Verification may lead to criminal prosecution for impersonation and/or forgery and/or other offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and/or the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules framed thereunder.

3. Process of Verification

The use of the Self Verification feature is voluntary and optional. Self Verification is not mandatory for use of the Koo App and any other services associated with it. 

The Self Verification process is as follows: 

  • Open your profile on the Koo App & click on ‘Self-Verify’.
  • Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number when prompted.
  • Enter the OTP, which you will receive on your aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  • On successful confirmation, a self-verification tick will appear next to your name, indicating that you are Self Verified.
  • The Self-Verification tick will identify you as a credible user of Koo.

BTPL does not guarantee any specific outcome (confirmation or rejection) of the verification process. 

BTPL does not bear any responsibility or liability for any outcome (confirmation or rejection) of the verification process and any reliance placed on the verification process. 

The Self Verification feature is provided on a best efforts basis without any undertaking or guarantee of any nature whatsoever.

BTPL reserves the right to withdraw or remove the Self Verification feature at any time without prior notice.

4. Data Collection & Privacy 

The use of the Self Verification feature is voluntary. Any data or information submitted by users is handled in accordance with applicable law and Koo’s Privacy Policy available here and the terms and conditions contained in this document. 

BTPL does not store any personal data except to the extent stated in its Privacy Policy and to the extent required to provide the Self Verification features. 

Specifically, BTPL does not store any Aadhaar data related to the process of Self Verification. BTPL only records whether an Aadhaar number submitted for verification was validated or rejected by UIDAI. 

Aadhaar Verification/validation services are provided by third party service providers who comply with legal requirements of UIDAI in relation to storage and management of data. This process is the same as used by any other entity for Aadhaar based verification.

Currently the following vendors have been onboarded for Self Verification:

Repyute Networks Pvt. Ltd.,  #1184, 4th Floor, 5th Main Rd, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, HSR Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560068

DeskNine Pvt. Ltd., #95, 3rd Floor, Rudra Chambers, 11th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bangalore – 560003 

The third party vendors work within the parameters prescribed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to verify the documents submitted by users. 

5. No Liability 

Any reliance on Self Verification is at the sole discretion and responsibility of the person placing such reliance. While due caution is exercised, the verification process may not be absolute. Please use additional means of verification as well. BTPL will not be responsible or liable for any damage or loss or consequence arising from the use or reliance of the Self Verification. 

This Self Verification feature is to be used only in relation to the Intermediary Guidelines. Please do not rely on Self Verification for any other purpose. BTPL shall not be responsible in any manner for any wrong or mistaken Self Verification. 

While every effort is made to keep the Self Verification feature running smoothly, BTPL takes no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, the feature being temporarily unavailable.

7. Miscellaneous

This use of the Self Verification is governed by and construed according to the laws of India. Any disputes related to use of this feature will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka.

BTPL reserves the right to amend or change any or all the information provided on its website and this disclaimer. Each time the site is accessed it is the responsibility of the user to check the relevant terms and conditions on the website prior to use.
