Requests for Information by Indian Law Enforcement Agencies
These guidelines set out Koo’s process for managing requests for information from Indian police, security and other government agencies (Law Enforcement Agencies). These guidelines are in compliance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (hereinafter “Intermediary Guidelines, 2021”).
In accordance with the Intermediary Guidelines, 2021, Individuals or Private Entities seeking redressal must write to the Koo Resident Grievance Officer at redressal@kooapp.com
Legal Process Requirements in India
Any request for information shall only be made in accordance with our Terms of Service and only to the extent provided in Intermediary Guidelines, 2021.
Such requests will be acknowledged by the Nodal Officer within 24 hours of receipt and any information in the possession of Koo will be furnished within 72 hours.
Any blocking orders received by a court order or notification from the Government or its authorized agencies will be resolved within 36 hours.
Indian Law Enforcement Authorities are requested to send requests for information in any of the following manners –
Email
All Indian Law Enforcement Agencies are requested to send requests for information to nodal.officer@kooapp.com. Usage of any other email address may lead to delays in response to the request.
Requests must be sent from a Government of India issued email ID and from a Government of India domain name i.e., gov.in/.nic.in/<state>.gov.in. If an email is received from a different email id, Koo reserves the right to authenticate the source of the request, which may lead to a delay in responses.

Format for a request
All requests for information must be submitted under the appropriate provision of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 or such other law as applicable.
Such requests must contain the case/FIR number, name, designation of the issuing authority, and direct contact phone number.

Requests for blocking or takedown of content or an account will require a court order or a notice issued from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Emergency Requests
In accordance with Intermediary Guidelines, 2021 there will be immediate compliance or compliance no later than 24 hours of blocking orders relating to accounts that are:
posting content that exposes the private area of an individual
shows an individual in full or partial nudity
or shows or depicts an individual in any sexual act or conduct
or is in the nature of impersonation in an electronic form, including artificially morphed images; or
child abuse
Requests for Information By Foreign Law Enforcement Authorities
Foreign Law Enforcement Agencies must send requests in accordance with any intergovernmental arrangements between their home country and the Government of India in addition to writing to nodal.officer@kooapp.com.
Data Retention Policy
As per the Intermediary Guidelines, 2021 all data regarding accounts and content are stored for 180 days. Any request for storing data for longer than 180 days should be issued by a court or lawfully authorized government agencies.
